Fastball’s new and noteworthy

, The Help Machine (33 1/3 Fastball) – Fastball had a brief bask in glory in 1998 with the song “The Way,” but skeptics lumped the Austin band in with Creed or Nickelback, ’90s bands best left forgotten.

Omnivore Recordings gave the 1998 release All the Pain Money Can Buy a reprise edition in early 2019, and now the band is back with a country-tinged power pop album of new material. With guests from such bands as Wye Oak and Cracker, Fastball proves in “Holding the Devil’s Hand” and the title track that they deserve respect; with some critical attention and airplay, they may just get it.
