Tuesday’s snowfall will likely be topped off with a few more inches later this week, but Thanksgiving Day should be in the clear.
Much of Fort Collins was closed Tuesday as 14.4 inches of snow fell across the city. According to the Community Collaborative Rain, Snow and Hail network, 35.5 inches of snow was reported in the mountains northwest of Fort Collins and 29 inches was reported at the southern tip of the county line.
“The combination of the very strong upper-level low pressure and strong upslope winds from the east were primary contributors to the intense snowfall rates over the northern Front Range, and especially in the foothills,” said Colorado State University Climatologist Russ Schumacher.
The snow will hold off Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder, but snow showers are possible Friday and Saturday.
“A strong system will push over the area Friday to bring strong winds and snow across the area,” according to NWS’ hazardous weather outlook.
NWS is forecasting a 60% chance of snow on Friday, and less likely odds on Saturday.
Schumacher said the snow will likely impact the surrounding mountains more than Fort Collins.
Sunday is predicted to be dry, followed by a slight chance of snow Monday.
