A former Larimer County Realtor turned himself in at the Weld County Jail on Tuesday after being charged with stealing more than $850,000 from at least 15 victims in a Windsor condominium deal.
Bret Lamperes, 51, of Berthoud, under the name Investments of Windsor LLC, sold 29 condominiums in the Grasslands Park project in 2015, but only eight of the 29 condos were built, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.
He is charged with theft, money laundering, two counts of filing a false tax return and tax evasion. Investigators believe he stole $852,510 from 15 victims who invested money in the project.
Lamperes permanently lost his real estate license in August after an investigation by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies Division of Real Estate. He was censured by the Colorado Real Estate Commission and fined $57,500.
Most of the fine was stayed unless Lamperes violates the order or attempts to reapply for his real estate license or any license issued by the Division of Real Estate.
The order revoking his license states Lamperes failed to deposit or account for earnest monies paid to him while acting as a real estate broker, converted or diverted funds, comingled funds with his own money or failed to keep funds of others in an escrow or trust account.
Lamperes “demonstrated unworthiness or incompetency to act as a real estate broker by conducting business in such a manner as to endanger” the public interest, the order states. Lamperes appeared in Weld County court Friday morning.
