Parts of two major roads were closed in Fort Collins on Friday night following a fatal collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian near Prospect Road and College Avenue.
According to a news release from Fort Collins Police Services, a Dodge pick-up truck driving north on College Ave. struck a male pedestrian who reportedly ran out into the road around 7:40 p.m. Friday night.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital before being pronounced deceased.
According to FCPS, the female driver of the truck was not injured in the collision, and police do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor for the driver.
The release stated that police believe the driver had a green light, and the pedestrian was reportedly not in a crosswalk at the site of the collision.
“While we are still investigating the circumstances of why the pedestrian was in the roadway, our thoughts are with all who witnessed and were involved in this tragic incident,” Fort Collins Police Lieutenant Mike Trombley said in the release.
College Avenue heading north was closed between Lake Street and Stuart Street until about 11:45 p.m. while local authorities cleared the scene.
The Larimer County Coroner will release the name of the deceased after notification of their family.
