Fort Collins police: Registered sex offender arrested in sex assault of teen he met online

A registered sex offender has been arrested in the sexual assault of a teen Fort Collins police say he met online, and police believe there may be additional victims.

Police say Nathaniel Strauss, 42, initiated a conversation with the teen victim through a social media app. Strauss told the victim he was 28, and the two allegedly met on several occasions and engaged in sexual activity, according to a news release from Fort Collins Police Services. 

After learning about these interactions, the victim’s parents reported it to the police, and police identified Strauss as the suspect.

Strauss faces charges of unlawful sexual contact, a Class 4 felony; obscenity to a minor, a Class 6 felony; and sexual assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor. 

Strauss is a registered sex offender. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a Class 4 felony, and sexual exploitation of a child, a Class 3 felony. He was sentenced to prison and sex offender intensive supervised probation.
