Hiker, 27, reported as overdue from Hessie Trailhead area Wednesday, search resumes Thursday

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Rescue teams will resume a search around Nederland for a missing 27-year-old hiker on Thursday morning after high winds created difficulties overnight.

On Wednesday at 6:18 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center learned that a 27-year-old man was overdue from a hiking trip in the Nederland area.

The man, who is from Arvada, left for a hike around 9:30 a.m. from the Hessie Trailhead, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities found his vehicle at the trailhead.

His cell phone pinged around noon up on the Continental Divide, the sheriff’s office said.

Rescuers — on skis, snowshoes and snowmobiles — began to search for the missing man. Five teams worked through the night. High winds created difficulties for the search teams.

The team covered a large area of terrain, but did not find him, the sheriff’s office said.

The search will continue in the daylight on Thursday.
