Larimer County will open community-wide testing to those experiencing coronavirus symptoms beginning Friday.
The county received a delivery of 500 tests from the state, according to a news release, and tests will be provided until supplies run out.
Individuals 18 years and older can be tested without a doctor’s note, but they must be symptomatic. Testing will be done on an appointment basis, and pre-registration is required.
Those interested are still recommended to contact their healthcare provider “for guidance and assistance in acquiring a test,” the release noted, as some local providers have their own testing available.
Testing centers will only be open two days per week and have capacity to run 150 tests per day.
Five hundred tests “could last a few weeks,” according to Katie O’Donnell, spokesperson for the county’s department of health and environment, depending on how many individuals go through their healthcare provider.
The state also said they would provide more testing supplies in the future, O’Donnell said.
“Testing is key to start lifting our stay at home orders and move on to the safer at-home stage,” said Tom Gonzales, Larimer County Director of Health and Environment.
“We need to open slowly, and we need to have testing in place so that we can monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We need to be testing every person who is symptomatic within 24 hours and issuing an isolation order within 6 hours of a positive reported case.”
