Mobile home park pledges ‘repairs and cleaning’ to sewage-damaged home

GODLEN, Colo. — One day after Kelly Salazar thought she had lost everything in her mobile home, she has new reason to hope.

She is a resident in the Mountainside Estates in Golden. A sewer line backup in her neighborhood caused her entire home to be flooded with toxic waste.

She tried for days to reach the management company, RHP Properties, to little avail. As her home continually flooded, she was forced to live in squalid conditions.

“It is everything that I have,” Salazar said on Monday standing outside of her home. “It’s heartbreaking because of someone else’s failure to act.”

On Monday morning, after seeing the story on Denver7, representatives from RHP Properties contacted Salazar promising to remedy the damaged home.

“She said she wanted to restore the home back to what it was before all of this happened,” said Salazar about the property manager for her mobile home park. “I’m glad that they’re accepting responsibility and taking accountability and fixing it and making it right.”

RHP provided a statement confirming managers: “Have contracted with a professional cleaning and restoration company, at no cost to the resident, and they have begun thoroughly cleaning the home.”

The statement goes on to say Salazar will be accommodated in a hotel while the restorations are completed, and her February rent will be waived.

“I can’t say that I’m 100% until all this is over,” Salazar said. “But it’s a start.”

The sewer overflow flooded the bathroom and hallway inside the mobile home and began leaking into the bedrooms. The living room and kitchen were spared. However, the damage from days of drainage and filth is still unknown.

“I guess that I won’t fully know what else is gone until they’re done with this cleanup,” Salazar said. “I know I’ve lost a lot of personal items and furniture.”

Though there is a lot of work to do in repairing the home, Salazar said she is happy the management company is listening.

“For them to actually respond. It’s just, it’s a relief,” Salazar said. “I am grateful to Denver7 for all the help and the assistance and getting the story out there and getting my voice heard and holding this company accountable.”
