One killed, one injured in Saturday shooting with Cañon City police

A man was killed and another injured in a police-involved shooting Saturday night in Cañon City, law enforcement officials said Sunday.

The shooting took place on U.S. Highway 50 near Dozier Avenue around 10 p.m., near the Quality Inn motel. Two police officers tried to make contact with the driver of a black 1999 Infiniti, and shots were fired by both officers at some point after. The officers were uninjured, according to Sunday news releases from the police department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the incident.

A 28-year-old male was shot and later pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released. A 20-year-old male passenger was also shot but is expected to survive, according to CBI.

The police department has placed the officers involved on administrative leave during the investigation per department policy, CBI’s news release stated.
