DENVER — We love Colorado’s dry weather, but we don’t love our dry skin in Colorado.
No one wants to pay hundreds of dollars for moisturizer, but how do you get better skin?
Denver Plastic Surgeon Manish Shah said first, don’t pay hundreds of dollars.
“$300 to $400 for moisturizing cream?” Shah said. “I’m sorry, but that’s a scam. You shouldn’t pay that kind of money for something over the counter, just because it has a fancy name and packaging on it.”
Instead, she said, look for products with three specific ingredients.
“Look for products with ceramides,” Shah said. “They have a much greater moisturizing capability. You want hyaluronic acid to hydrate the superficial and deep layers of your skin itself. And silicone can help seal off from early loss of the product on your skin.”
Shah also said drinking water is important.
“A lot of people walking around have chronically dehydrated bodies, which leads to chronically dehydrated skin that looks ashy, and empty, and wrinkled,” she said. “The normal 64 ounces of water they recommend — you know eight 8-ounce glasses a day — that doesn’t work here in Denver. We need 80-100 ounces. As long as you don’t have bad kidney problems, you’ll easily go through that 80 to 00 ounces and you’ll just be hydrated enough.”
