A 21-year-old Texas woman suffered serious injuries during a slide down a snow-covered slope into rocks in Rocky Mountain National Park on Tuesday.
The accident happened on the south side of Emerald Lake in the popular Bear Lake area of the park, according to a park news release. The woman slid an estimated 70 to 100 feet down a snow-covered slope into a talus slope.
The park’s search and rescue team members provided advanced medical care, then used a rescue toboggan to transport the woman from Emerald Lake to the Bear Lake Trailhead. From there, she was transported by ambulance to Estes Park Health and then taken to a nearby trauma center.
