Suspect shoots at Pueblo police responding to menacing call, officers uninjured

PUEBLO — A suspect shot at five police officers after they responded to a menacing call in Pueblo’s northside, according to the Pueblo Police Department.

The department initially told News5 the shooter fired at police during a traffic stop at Elizabeth and Fortino, but officers responded to a menacing call around noon in the area of Elizabeth and Patty.

The suspect shot at five officers and ran from police to the Pueblo Grande mobile home park. Three of those officers fired back, injuring the suspect.

A few police vehicles were hit during the shooting as well.

Friday evening, police identified the suspect as 40-year-old James Justice. Police said that hit Justice struck him in the thigh. His injuries were not life-threatening. He was also on bond for assault on peace officer charges at the time of this incident.

No officers were hurt during the shooting.
