An indie trio that shares a producer with The Lumineers, plays house shows and includes the obligatory cellist with black-rimmed glasses, might be expected to deliver the kind of chamber-pop solipsism that lulls you into blissful tranquility. The Ballroom Thieves forgo that last part.

More hip than hipster, Boston-based electric guitarist Martin Earley, cellist/bassist Callie Peters and drummer Devin Mauch describe themselves as “a rock band in a folk suit,” a promise borne out by their set last year at MeadowGrass as well as the soulful intensity of their Trump-era anthem “Do Something.” But don’t take our word for it; check out their Audiotree Live session and you’ll find all the proof you need.
