If your New Year’s Day plans involve traveling north along Interstate 25, you’ll have to find another route.
Adverse weather in Wyoming and strong winds have closed the interstate northbound from Wellington to the Wyoming boarder, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The closure begins at milemarker 277 and ends at 298.
As of 4 p.m Wednesday., there was no estimated reopening time.
In conjunction to the road closure, the National Weather Service in Boulder issued a high wind warning on Wednesday at 11:28 a.m. The warning will expire at 5 p.m.
NWS warns of winds between 35 and 50 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 80 mph in Larimer County and northwest Weld County.
“Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for lightweight and high-profile vehicles,” NWS reported.
The warning also advised securing loose outdoor items to prevent any damage from the strong winds.
