Julie from Centennial writes, “What’s driving you crazy? For months we have heard the noise of cars going over steel plates in the road on north and south bound University Boulevard at County Line. There is equipment sitting on the SE corner of University. It never moves and no one is ever around. There are long pieces of pipe sitting there. There never seems to be anyone working. Can you please tell us what in the world is going on? It’s very noisy to listen to these cars going over the steel plates all night and all day every day.”
I can vouch for the noise, Julie. When I went out there to look at the progress of the work, every vehicle that hits those metal plates covering the large holes in the road made a terrible noise.
The work going on along University at County Line Road is a project by Xcel Energy. Xcel received a permit from CDOT to conduct emergency work on a gas main there, and I was told Xcel’s work is almost complete barring any unforeseen circumstances and pavement restoration will follow immediately after.
Xcel energy’s Media Relations Representative Michelle Aguayo told me, “The project at County Line and University is a natural gas pipeline project that we are putting into service for the winter heating season, stemming from a repair earlier this fall. At this time, crews are wrapping up the repair work, then the road will be restored. We understand projects like this one can impact local traffic and the community, and we appreciate our customers’ patience as we finish up this project.”
Xcel tells me they expect work to begin this week, weather permitting, but didn’t provide exactly when all the work would be finished and the road would be back to normal.
