In 2020, Windsor is hoping to promote healthier lifestyles by enacting a new smoking ban in some parts of the town.
Beginning Jan. 1, smoking and vaping is prohibited in town-owned recreation areas, including parks, trails and natural areas.
However, the ban does not extend to the parking lots at these areas.
Cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipes and electronic cigarettes are among prohibited items under the new rules.
“It has been proven that there is no safe form of tobacco,” Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture Eric Lucas said in a news release. “By creating smoke- and vape-free recreation environments, we hope to eliminate the damaging effects tobacco can have on kids and young adults.”
Fort Collins banned smoking in all public parks, trails, natural areas and facilities in 2015, and passed an expanded smoking ban in Old Town in 2016.
